Wrap It Up

The July issue of Sunset magazine offers a solution for those of us that will do almost anything to avoid heating up the kitchen during the summer, but who also want to entertain during a heat wave. Sunset’s idea? Make some lettuce wraps. Sunset thinks outside the box in this article, offering more than just shredded chicken in iceberg lettuce.

Wraps are for more than just dinner: “lettuce wraps also make a light, elegant appetizer that’s perfect for entertaining at home.” Two recipes are featured in the article: Vietnamese Shrimp Lettuce Wraps with Spicy Lime Dipping Sauce and Chinese Pork Radicchio Wraps with Hot-Sweet Dipping Sauce. These recipes are billed as providing “the freshest flavors that the season’s produce has to offer, and they’re surprisingly easy: Prepare the ingredients ahead of time, assemble them right before serving, and offer as a first course — or pass around on a platter, utensil-free.”

In the theme of recipes for summer entertaining, the July issue of Sunset also features the following summer dinner party menu: Grilled Chicken and Nectarine Salad, Creamy Pesto-Eggplant Dip, Fresh Corn Soup, and Lavender-scented Berry Crisp. That would be some party, huh?
